NodeJS

NodeJS Is an evented IO for V8 javascript engine. It lets us access system calls using Javascript through Google's powerful V8 engine.

Among the possible use cases, here is a short list of examples I'd use it for:

  • Realtime Applications
  • Extending current applications (via middleware)
  • High Performance Asynchronic applications
  • Fun

Installation

In order to install NodeJS follow these steps:

  1. Go to NodeJS Download Page
  2. Grab the latest tar.gz
  3. Untar it
  4. ./configure && make && sudo make install

Or copy and paste the following:

mkdir ~/src && cd ~/src
git clone http://github.com/ry/node.git
git checkout v0.2.2
./configure
make
sudo make install

Then check you installed it successfully:

node

If you end up in a node shell, you're done.
